24” x 24 x 1.5” collage and acrylic on canvas. When the flowers lining the roads on Johns and James Island burst into bloom the need to paint the luscious colors and shapes of these beautiful blooms was overwhelming.

20” x 16” x 1/5” mixed media collage on canvas. Near the beginning of March on Johns and James Island, near Charleston, South Carolina, the plants begin to emerge from their hidden places. I dreamed of the blooms and flowers to come.

I always feel joy when I see these bright, hardy flowers. A friend of mine who has a field full of them on Edisto Island is my inspiration.

24” x 24 x 1.5” collage and acrylic on canvas. Zinnias will bloom from late May until early August. The more they are cut, the more blooms they produce. At the end of the summer they get leggy and begin to die off. This is my end-of-the-summer interpretation of the Zinnia field.

24” x 24 x 1.5” collage and acrylic on canvas. Driving to and from work on James and Johns Island I experienced Charleston Spring in all it’s glory. A riot of purple wisteria dripped from the trees. Near the Executive Airport, bright red flowers lined both sides of the road. Along the shaded creeks, beautiful white flowers and bright spring-green plants poked their heads above the tangled greenery. The Southern Sun encouraged this variety of color.

Many of the LowCountry’s wetlands are just out of view—hidden behind tall trees or equally tall houses.

Glimpses and dreams of the ribbon rivers and waterways surround me on my island in South Carolina.

I have an endless fascination with the winding waterways that surround Charleston.

This was my first arches painting. It was inspired by the colors and shapes found in nature overlaid with the architectural element of arches.
